Kindergarten Program
Welcome to Kindergarten!
The Growing Kids Academy Kindergarten Program is an excellent foundation for school success. It is an academically accelerated program that is suitable for children who have previously participated in a challenging preschool curriculum. Professional educators at Growing Kids Academy will assist parents and help make a determination as to an appropriate educational match for each child.
The Growing Kids Academy kindergarten may accept children who turn five years of age by September 30. The Academy Principal will consider and determine eligibility of children who do not meet this age requirement. Parents are encouraged to contact the Academy Principal for more information. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Our high quality, in-depth curriculums address Standards of Learning in all subject areas including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, physical education, music, and technology. Typically, Growing Kids Academy kindergarteners are exposed to a greater breadth and depth of knowledge and progress at a faster pace than their peers in public schools. A Typical Full Day in Kindergarten…
The following is a brief overview of a typical day in our full day Kindergarten classroom. Although there are times designated for each activity, these may vary depending upon the time of the year, special activities and the schedule. Please be aware that the schedule is developmentally appropriate for kindergarten children. Throughout the day the students are given opportunities to learn, explore, create, manipulate and question through meaningful activities. The goal is that each child will learn and be challenged at his or her own individual level.
Morning Meeting
Greetings, attendance, opening exercises, overview of daily schedule, morning message/literacy activities, calendar/math activities, etc.
Language Arts and/or Math
Reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing
Use of manipulatives in whole group, small group and individual instruction (whole group, small group, and individual group instruction)
Guided Centers/Guided Reading
Small group instruction and activities at differentiated levels
Emphasis placed on working together with others and teamwork
LUNCH
Outdoor Recess
Unstructured socialization and gross-motor activities
Quiet Time
Story time, individual book time, quiet activities, music and relaxing time
Math and/or Literacy
Use of manipulatives in whole group, small group and individual instruction
Reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing
(whole group, small group, and individual group instruction)
Science/Social Studies
Hands-on activities, exploring/observing and recording of findings
Free Choice Centers
Explore classroom centers independently or with other children
Socializing with friends
Closing Meeting
Discuss day, pack-up, song/story time and prepare for dismissal
Special Classes:
